Writing and writing
So, after I said I’d be blogging every day, I miss the very next day. Oh well. I’m still getting into the habit.
Yesterday I finished the first draft of a new story, which at the moment is titled “The Changing Room”. That may change; I’ve had a hard time settling on a title. I’m revising now, and with any luck I’ll be able to submit it sometime this weekend.
One piece of writing advice that you hear often is to focus on finishing the first draft, then go through and revise–as opposed to writing the beginning and then endlessly reworking it until it’s perfect before finishing the piece. I think I can now attest that the advice is correct. There’s no way to constructively revise your work until you know the overall shape of the story, and you can’t know that until you actually finish the bloody thing.
Anyway, the writing continues.
In other news, I started back at work yesterday, after seven weeks off for summer. I’m in a completely different position, working far fewer hours, and making far less money–but I think I’m going to be happier.
If nothing else, it’s only three days a week (40% less driving! yay!), and it’s a tech job, which means that FINALLY somebody is paying me to play with computers.
So I’ve got that going for me. Which is nice.
